The Playpen has been in operation since 2009 and is the Kootenays premiere pet boarding, daycare and grooming spa!

We understand that your pet is a part of your family and when it comes to caring for your family, it is extremely important to find someone you can trust. The Playpen strives to provide the highest quality pet care services in the Kootenays. Our wide variety of services include doggy daycare, boarding, full grooming, non-sedation teeth cleaning as well as individualized activities.

Rest assured that our friendly and well trained staff will care for your pet like one of their own. They will receive unlimited love and respect, and will be monitored closely.

Additionally, we take great pride in maintaining a clean, healthy and parasite free environment. Our facility is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized twice daily to prevent the spread of disease and parasites. We went above and beyond by installing a state of the art UV germicidal light in our HVAC vents which eliminates germs, pathogens, allergens and odors.

At The Playpen safety of your pet is our number one concern and will always be our first consideration when making decisions for your pet while in our care. We are certified in Dog-safe pet first aid and the owners, James and Diana have almost 12 years experience of running professional kennels.

James Barnett

James has completed a dog training and behavioral psychology course which he used as an official foster for the Dachshund and Friends Rescue team. The dogs with the worst behavioral issues due to abusive pasts were placed with James in his previous business where he used the free range daycare to socialize and rehabilitate over 100 foster dogs who were all placed in forever homes!

James seems to have a natural way with dogs, with dogs trusting and respecting him within a very short period of time. Customers will say “my dog doesn’t like men” or “my dog won’t let you pick them up” and by the end of the day they are either sitting in his lap or following him around everywhere!

Our staff are the ultimate animal lovers, to take their responsibility of caring for you pets very seriously We pride ourselves on giving our stand extra time in their day just so they can spend individual time to love each pet in our care.

Diana Weston

Diana brings a passion for excellence to everything she does. This passion and dedication to excellence contributed to building a well-loved cage free dog daycare and grooming spa in Chilliwack.

Diana started Small Frys Doggy Daycare single handedly 10 years ago. The concept of cage free daycare and overnight stays specializing in small to medium sized dogs was brand new in Chilliwack. It was a slow uphill battle to educate the population on the benefits of such care but slowly the word of mouth spread and Small Frys soon was a household name.

As Small Frys business expanded, James came in as a full-time manager while Diana received grooming training. She now has over 8 years of grooming experience, as well as 4 years experience of non-sedation teeth cleaning after being professionally trained and certified!!

Diana has relaunched this amazing service as well as a full grooming spa at the Playpen. This procedure not only saves customers time and money but helps ensure that dogs do not have to be sedated more than necessary. It is also often the only alternative for senior dogs who can no longer be sedated due to health problems.

Come Visit Us!

Diana and James bring their own two dogs Lucy and Louie, a Mini Dachshund and Chihuahua mix. They are our business mascots and you will see them at the property often. They are excited to meet you all very soon!
